At first Luther was highly critical of the traditional policy of the Roman Catholic Church toward the Jews, and castigated it for treating them “as if they were dogs and not human beings.” But there was one chink in his armour of tolerance. He believed that the reforms which he was introducing into the Church would bring a wave of Jewish gratitude—and converts. When the converts were not forthcoming, his idealism turned to disillusionment and bitterness. Before a score of years was out, he attacked the Jews in one of the most violent diatribes ever recorded in history.
What then shall we Christians do with this damned rejected race of Jews?...Their synagogues or churches should be set on fire and whatever does not burn should be covered and spread over with dirt so that no one will be able to see a cinder or a stone of it…their homes should likewise be broken down and destroyed…they should be deprived of their prayer books and Talmuds.
“费事情” 象捡到一根稻草一样,断章取义地拿 Roland de Corneille 的书 "Christians and Jews; the Tragic Past and the Hopeful Future“挑拨基督徒和犹太教的关系。
Roland de Corneille
