原句有“无悔不是真人生”的意思。如果是在古董店，对于淘宝的人们，大概更有经历越多越遗憾的感慨。

不知哪句格言能跟该英文句子对应成功？

英文不好，不敢乱发言。

看了鸟人和7号的“争论”，感觉这句话会不会像同志一词一样，在文革时是人们口中出现率最高的词，但后来被人付与了新的含义，当然也要看新的含义的popular程度了。所以也不必争出个你是我非来。

对鸟人的开放的思维和处理争论的风度赞一下。

7号和鸟人有些个人恩怨所以有些出言不逊，可以原谅。比起5毛来，骂人要幼稚多了。

希望没得罪那位。

Getting zhengqi1 to come up with 少经世事未知悔 & 无悔不是真人生 is what made it worth it. Besides, I got promoted from 新手上路 to 注册会员 almost on the strength of this thread alone; I have no complaint. :wink:

花了几个小时看完了所有帖子，受益匪浅。在我看来，鸟人无疑是参与这场讨论的所有人中英文最好的，但他的文风有点浮华（chichi），有矫揉造作、堆砌词藻、卖弄之嫌，这是我不欣赏的地方。我更欣赏牧师布道以及politicians 做演讲时的平实（earthy）风格。可能这就是中国人常说的境界吧。。从穷人-富人-贵族，it takes time. 就英文水平而言，许多移民还处于穷人和富人之间。另外，鸟人英文不错，但要找出他的错误也并非难事，我指的是拼写以外的非低级错误。这句话本是一句平常话（并非谚语/格言，尽管有点哲理意味），但能引起如此热烈的讨论，颇有点tempest in a teapot 的意味。再次使我想起小时候读过的盲人摸象的故事。归根结底还是我们对西方文化抱着一种叶公好龙的态度，没有想真正了解、拥抱的意愿。这句话体现的是西方文化中崇尚冒险，大胆尝试的元素。遗憾的是这在中国传统文化中没有，所以诉诸唐诗宋词，孔孟之道找对应的圣人语录，就有点缘木求鱼，或者说削足适履，结果一定是词不达意，更遑论翻译的境界了。
最后有个问题想请教标榜中立的鸟人：
街上有一群流氓真在欺侮几个路过的行人，你正好目击了此事，你会如何反应呢？
A.听取双方的意见 B. 隔岸观火，看西洋景  C. 继续前行，装着没看到 D. 挺身而出，拔刀相助。

A.听取双方的意见  - not if one or both parties are holding guns or some other lethal weapons. Also only if my wife is with me, she is one strong woman. (she has good looks too)
B. 隔岸观火，看西洋景  - if they are on fire, I'll let the firemen handle it; they are the profs.
C. 继续前行，装着没看到 - 拉肚子,没法啦
D. 挺身而出，拔刀相助 - I don't normally carry a knife so 没刀可拔,可惜

No, I meant "Getting there", just as I wrote it. That was part of my reply to drag's comment " "嘿嘿，阿鸟变MIX了。不止神速，还更有味儿了呢". We had a previous exchange that led to my "getting there" comment.

Now I understand why you said "鸟人英文不错，但要找出他的错误也并非难事". If you read what I wrote too literally, you would no doubt find lots of errors and non-idiomatic expressions etc. I am not writing a literary masterpiece. Oftentimes I just type furiously, wherever my train of thought may lead me; whatever comes to my mind. Under pressure and with bullets flying, my survival instinct has always been "Shoot, then Aim, never ever Ready". I write like people around me speak. If I misspell a word, use a wrong tense, so be it; too bad if people can't take a joke.... I don't have a PHD in English literature, just like most people around me, native speakers of the language or not. I also write quite a bit at work, mostly technical documents and memos. I am more careful with my writing style when I write at work. You should see some of the stuff my native Americans co-workers write, you would think they have dropped out of high schools.

I'll let you in on a little secret....people take what I write here too literally, they miss some of my good natured sarcasm. That is how I got myself into trouble more than once, pissing people off(pardon my French here), especially those pain in the butt self-anointed purists among us. Do I feel bad about it? Nope. Their loss, my gain. :wink:  I do this for my own amusement, not to make people happy. That is why I was more amused than anything else these last few days. So much for my soapbox speech before I piss people off again.

You certainly have a good point. 鸟人的问题就在于一见到“小姐”，就想到“妓女”。
So this means lack of context might lend a word/sentence to various interpretations.

GET OUT和COME OUT的区别在与你所在的位址。如果你在inside，你就说get out，即出去。如果你在outside,你就说come out，即出来。但结果是一样的，也就是在外面。

这句话被很多人说过，同时也被同性恋说过（据鸟人所说），应该和同性恋有关。就像人们称年轻女孩小姐一样，但当人们也叫那些风尘女子为小姐时，见年轻女孩时就有些叫不出口了。

有些自由联想，不要见笑哈。

鸟人说他看过GET OUT是和LGBTQQ有关,他是权威因为他说英语,他的朋友说英语。

我写点邮问多伦多LGBTQQ大头,一个以推动同性恋吃饭的本地英语白人,以下是他的回复(我删去了他和我的名字):

Hey XXX!

If this is language associated with the gay community, I have not heard it before.  My guess is that this saying you have quoted is more a rhetorical comedic saying to indicate that those who say that they have no regrets in life, simply have not lived life to the fullest to have any.  The quote indicates more so that folks who would be considered living a "sheltered life" would have no regrets.  The saying, to my knowledge, does not refer to the gay community or queer culture.

总之,就是那句,说英语的就是黄鼠狼,我们中国人不知道到什么时候才敢上前向英语人说句 – 你错了!!!!
