How much longer do parents have to bang their heads against the wall to be heard regarding the new Sex Education Curriculum?
Dear Parents, Grandparents and Concerned Citizens,
Thank you so much for gathering here to voice your concerns and to show your support!!
But it is sad that we have to be here wearing helmets in this beautiful park and on this beautiful day.
It is sad that we have to ask the government to respect the differences between families, cultures and faith. One size does not fit all.
It is sad that the routine lives of thousands and thousands of parents and families have been disturbed and changed forever since the Feb. 2015 release of the new Sex Education Curriculum.
It is sad that the new Sex-Ed Curriculum plants wrong seeds at the wrong seasons of our most vulnerable – our children. The new sex education curriculum is age inappropriate, promotes way too explicit sexual knowledge, sexual pleasure and sexual freedom. This curriculum will confuse our children. It puts young children in danger, families in danger, schools in danger along with our faith and moral values being destroyed.
It is sad that parents have to leave their comfort zone and spend time, money, energy and all their resources to become warriors for their children. We are just ordinary parents and for us our natural instinct is to do whatever we have to do to protect our young. We began to write letters, send numerous emails, make phone calls; we knocked on doors of Premier Wynne, Minister of Education Liz Sandals, our elected MPP’s and school board trustees, we spoke with our school boards, Principals and teachers. We began a petition and went door to door collecting signatures, had rallies across the province, sent children on strike. Parents thought about homeschooling and struggled with alternative plans. These parents have talked to the media and risked their careers and safety to speak out the truth.
It is sad when many parents feel powerless and speechless and to think all that can be done is to sign a petition. 185,000 hand written signatures and online petitions have been collected from all over the province of Ontario. On June 1st these petitions were presented to the Ontario government via MPP Monte McNaughton. There are 2Million students in Ontario and this government only consulted with 4000 parents. 185,000 signatures is not a number to ignore and it tells the government that this curriculum has to be put on hold until meaningful consultation is done.
It is sad that the Ontario government has turned a deaf ear to the parents and continues to insist on implementing the curriculum this fall no matter what and have told parents that they just have to agree to disagree.
It is a sad day that we are here wearing helmets to ask the government “how much longer do we need to bang our heads against the wall for you to at least put the sex ed curriculum on hold for further consultation? The helmet symbolizes the frustration of dealing with the educational system but also symbolizes the fact that we need protect the minds of our very young.
Thank you for standing up together, to speak up for the better education, to protect our children and to protect Canada’s future. Please don’t give up! Together, we can make a difference!
