It is quite despicable to smear our own country. You will never gain any respect if you don't love your country of origin. There has been enough negative reporting based on manipulations and lies about China if you regularly read national post, globe and mail, and cbc. Especially cbc is the mouthpiece of the right wing government. The primary source of funding of cbc is from our tax money.
Chinese in China and Canadians are very different in terms of self confidence. Lack of confidence is wide spread among Chinese people. Our Chinese media in China tend to repeat western propaganda and glorify everything western. the self defeating media reporting in China destroys the self confidence among Chinese. Many Chinese politicians and university professors really fit into the profile of "zou gou".
Canada is a wonderful country. I feel very lucky to be here. Many civilized common values are legally protected such as equality and human rights. However it doesn't mean equality and human rights are a given. You need to understand your rights first and then learn how to earn and protect your rights. Sometimes please don't take pity for respect. Sometimes people are nice to you because you are not seen as equal. In Canada, you need to fight for everything too, just not as direct and intense as in China. Gradually you will notice commonality in human nature among different peoples are a lot more than the difference.
Immigrating to Canada is not just about better environment and social programs, but also learning Canadian cultures and mentality. Take pride in our Chinese cultural heritage and embrace cultures of other ethnic groups. Be confident.
By the way, it is just me or you have the same impression too. Many western people are quite rude and self privileged in China. They tend to ignore the local laws. While western nations ask China to respect rule of law, but they tend to ask Chinese government to do as being told while ignoring rule of law in China. |
