movesale 999 and unclecharlie posted web sites for further reading.  You must pay attention to the clean air items; otherwise they cannot be imported.

I did get my brand new Subaru from US last month and save 23k, the brand new car don't even need the emission test and the safety test, Canadian tire stamp on the form 1 only. Don't threw out your nonsense idiot, before you done the research; "clean air items", what is that??? you don't even know what is "emission test" and tying to fooling around here already; I doubt if you ever own a vehicle in north america...

Problems with importing from the U.S.



   the warranty may not be the same or void  

   some vehicles are ineligible for entry into Canada

   some manufacturers do not allow their dealers to sell cars to cross border shoppers – dealers who get caught may be fined or face other risks to their franchise

   if you are not importing through a third party (a Canadian dealer or broker), you will have to sell your existing car privately

   Provincial and federal government rebates for buyers of fuel efficient cars may not apply to cars brought in from the U.S.

   Lemon laws and CAMVAP arbitration do not extend to imported vehicles

   if you import a vehicle personally, and you have a legal dispute with the selling dealer, you will have to sue in the U.S.

If you import automobiles from USA, please ensure their emission standards meet those in Canada; otherwise, you can't register yours here.


This is what RIV says:

I don't work for any dealership or in the automobile industry.

I bought a car from USA 12 or 13 years ago - not a brand new car but a dirt cheap used car off lease.  My friend has been buying for like 20 years from Detroit because his in-laws own a dealership there.

In a nutshell, I won't do it again - too much hassle, paperwork, no recall registration and no warranty.
