Did anybody ever watch George Carlin? He is the most brilliant American comedian ever and he is not afraid of speaking the truth. And that is why we don't see him very much on public TV at all.

As a matter of fact, religion is highly smart; brilliantly smart, and smartly manipulative, in spite of the fact that most schools of religion, if not all, are bullshit.  Religion has amassed a staggering amount of wealth and possesses tremendous political influence on social and world affairs. In fact, religion  has been so influential that most major wars in history were fought in the name of religion. As George Carlin correctly put it: "Religion has been the major cause of death in history". No, religion is certainly not stupid. But it does need people who do not want to think for themselves to survive and prosper.

Unfortunately, religion is going downhill today, because more and more people are thinking for themselves.

It often surprises me that many of us Chinese folks, especially the newcomers, get involved in churches, or even become baptized without having much real understanding of what Christianity is really about. They believe, naively, that religion stands for "good"; and religion teaches them to be "good"...  Unfortunately, this is far from the truth. Historically, all kinds of crimes have been committed in the name of religion. Religion has had a very sordid or dirty past. The church has done a good job of hiding its criminal past.  Religion today still stands for division and discrimination in a subtle way. I just hope that whoever that is interested in the church should learn about its history before getting involved with it.

The documentary is entitled "Unrepentant: Canada's Genocide". This is a particularly significant film in light of what the Western media, including that of Canadian,  has been accusing of China committing genocide in Tibet.

Hi inncanada:
It is certainly not a bad idea to learn English at a church or in any other social settings. You may even be able to learn of what the church or Christianity stands for through going to church. I do not object to people going to church, which is very much a personal life choice. Religion and church is also a fact life here. I am just trying to say that one should really get to understand what religion is all about, its past and its present,  before he/she calls him/herself a "Christian".  I just hope that nobody will ever tell me again that "church people are good", because that is a lie that the religious people have been trying to perpetuate all along.

Sorry about the confusion on user ids. Every time I come to 51, my spouse's user id gets signed in automatically first. I hope to avoid it from here on.
