Re: Pro-Tibet disruptions of relay sad reflection on civilized people, April 9.
After reading the letter from Maureen Fiori, I felt a breath of fresh air in the current, ongoing discussions on the China-Tibet issue.
No doubt, the human rights record in China needs to improve, and China should open Tibet to the outside media as opposed to shrouding it behind a curtain of mystery and control.

However, the recent events confirmed my view that people in the world, and, particularly in the media, are seeking a super villain to chastise and China conveniently fits the bill.
There has been a major lack of balanced views on the subject, and the recent disruption to the Olympics torch relay was, in my opinion, thuggery and mob behaviour.
When the Nepalese police clobbered the demonstrators in Nepal, China got blamed.
And when the Chinese students in Canada marched to show their side of the sentiment, the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa had to be behind that movement, before any proof was in place.
Worldwide media play a key role in informing the public on a specific issue. So far the public has been ill served.
