10月24日考试大作文:

Detailed description of crimes on newspaper and TV can have bad consequences on society, so this kind of information should be restricted on media. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Recently, there has been a concern over news media reporting crimes with too many details. For many reasons people believe such coverage should be reduced. Personally, I agree with this opinion.

First of all, such reports help people understand more about crimes, such as the motives, process, and possibly ways to protect themselves in a dangerous situation. Also, it can help ordinary people gain more insights about the consequences of wrongdoings, therefore crime rate may be reduced as well. Thus, knowing more about these details has some positive meanings. Furthermore, stories with abundant crime details are very likely to attract the public attention to the problematic situation, which serves as a catalyst for governments to take proper actions to cope with such a problem.

On the flip side, there could be some dangerous consequences. Firstly, some details of criminal offenses such as rape and murder are not appropriate for being exposed on the screen. Where violent scenes are shown, discomfort among the public, especially children, will be caused. Besides, this will traumatize victims further as it reminds them of their unfortunate experience. They deserve to be protected and cared by the rest society and their trauma should be healed rather than aggravated.

What is even worse is that potential criminals could watch such stories and emulate the evil deeds. This is mainly because detailed description could serve as a textbook for those would-be offenders. Besides, the techniques and measures police officers use to crack down a criminal are disclosed, which might help them avoid being caught.

To conclude, I believe detailed reports about crimes on the news media should be limited because they bring out more adverse effects than benefits. Otherwise, victims could be hurt again and emulation of crime deeds would increase.
