一个美国小学老师在考试前给学生的一封信

　　这是一个美国小学老师给她的三年级班的学生的一封信。因为下一周有加州统考（California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress），她希望孩子们不要太紧张。这封信反映了美国教育的一些特点。信是这么写的（大意）：

　　亲爱的三年级学生，

　　下周你就要参加CASPP的数学和语文考试了。我知道你付出了怎样的努力。但还有一些事你应该要知道。

　　这个考试不能衡量你所做的一切，你的特殊和你的唯一。制作考试的人不像我那样了解你，当然更不像你的家人那样了解你。他们不知道你会说两种语言，你爱唱歌和画画。他们看不到你跳舞的天才。他们不知道你的朋友是多么需要你，你的玩笑点亮了他们最黑暗的时刻， 或者在你害羞的时候脸就红了。他们不知道你是运动健将，对未来充满好奇，放学以后还帮家里做事。他们不知道你是多么友善，可信赖，为别人着想。每一天你都在尽你最大的努力。

　　你的成绩会告诉你一些事情，可是它不会告诉你所有的事情。做个聪明的孩子有很多不同的方式。你很聪明！你做得足够好了！你是那道照亮我的一天的闪电。在你准备考试的时候，你要记住，没有什么考试能考核所有那些精彩和神奇的让你成为你的东西。

　　Dear fantastic 3rd graders,

　　Next week you will take your CASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) exam for Math and Language Arts. I know how hard you have worked, but there is something very important you must know:

　　The CASP test does not assess all of what makes you special and unique. The people who create these tests and score them do not know each of you the way I do, and certainly not the way your family does.

　　They do not know that some of you speak two languages or that you love to sing and draw. They have not seen your natural talent for dancing. They do not know that your friends count on you to be there for them, that your laughter can brighten the darkest day, or that your face turns red when you feel shy  They do not know that you participate in sports, wonder about the future, or sometimes you help your family after school. They do not know that you are kind, trustworthy, and thoughtful…and every day you try to be your very best.

　　The scores you will get from this test will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything. There are many ways of being smart. You are smart! You are enough! You are the light that brightens my day! So while you are preparing for the test and in the midst of it all, remember that there is no way to “test” all of the amazing and awesome things that make you, YOU!
