You can't deny the fact that China's middle class has grown rapidly since it opened the door to global trade. You can tell that from car ownership, per capita income growth, housing conditions, etc, all these things point to a quickly rising living standard for most Chinese. During the same period of time, the middle class in US, canada and Europe are all shrinking, and inequality growing due to the loss of capitals and middle class jobs to developing countries, especially China and India. Now, it is true that US corporations do make money by relocating production to low cost countries, but this benefit are all absorbed by top level management, big shareholders of these companies, with nothing going to the American workers who lose their jobs. The US government can't do anything about this situation because this is how capitalist system suppose to work. |
