When Steven Coolmaple realized his wife had been in the shower for almost two hours, he raced to the bathroom and began shouting her name.
When he pried open the door, he found Feng Jin Wu, 46, collapsed in the tub with the water nearly overflowing. It was then he called police.
“I’m sad and also confused with what happened to her,” Coolmaple said.
Police are investigating the death as suspicious since Wu told family members she had been hit by a car in the hours before she died on Friday.
Coolmaple said he remembers seeing bruises on her hands when she came home that day. She told her husband she was really tired and wanted to have a shower and then sleep.
“I thought that after she showered she would feel better … but I should have brought her to hospital to check,” he said.
Earlier that day, Coolmaple’s stepson drove Wu to a doctor’s appointment.
He said his wife was supposed to begin work as a nanny and had flown into Toronto about a week earlier from China. She was still adjusting to the time difference and had not gotten much sleep, Coolmaple said.
Police said the accident may have occurred in the Leslie St. and Finch Ave. E. area where the victim lived, or elsewhere in the GTA. They are asking anyone who may have seen her on Friday to come forward. The driver of the vehicle that may have struck her is also asked to contact police. |
