现在大家都知道我们正置身危机核心，我国正处于对抗深远暴力和憎恨的战争。我们的经济元气大伤，是某些人贪婪且不负责任的后果，也是大众未能做出艰难的选择，为国家进入新时代做淮备所致。许多人失去房子，丢了工作，生意垮了。我们的医疗照护太昂贵，学校教育辜负了许多人。每天都有更多证据显示，我们利用能源的方式壮大我们的对敌，威胁我们的星球。

这些都是得自资料和统计数据的危机指标。比较无法测量但同样深沉的，是举国信心尽失─持续担心美国将无可避免地衰退，也害怕下一代一定会眼界变低。

今天我要告诉各位，我们面临的挑战是真的，挑战非常严重，且不在少数。它们不是可以轻易，或在短时间内解决。但是，美国要了解，这些挑战会被解决。

在这一天，我们聚在一起，因为我们选择希望而非恐惧，有意义的团结而非纷争和不合。

怀疑者无法理解的是他们的主张已经站不住脚，长期以来折磨我们的陈腐政治争议已经行不通。我们今天的问题不是政府太大或太小，而是有无功效，是否能帮助家庭找到薪水不错的工作，支付得起照顾费用，有尊严的退休。哪个方向能够提供肯定的答案，我们就往那里走。答案是否定的地方，计画就会停止。所有我们这些管理大众金钱的人都将负起责任，花钱要精明，改掉恶习，正大光明作事情，只有这样我们才能重建政府与人民间最重要的信任。

我们眼前的问题也不是说市场的力量是善或恶。市场创造财富和增加自由的力量无与伦比，但是这场危机提醒我们没有监督时，市场发展将失控，当市场只偏爱有钱人时，国家无法永续繁荣。我们经济成功的依据，不只是国内生产毛额的规模，还有繁荣可及的范围，以及我们将机会拓展给每个愿意打拼的人，不是因为施舍，而是因为这就是达到我们共同利益最稳健的途径。

My fellow citizens:

I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.

Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents.

So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.

That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable but no less profound is a sapping of confidence across our land - a nagging fear that America’s decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights.

Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America - they will be met.

On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.

On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.

We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.

In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of short-cuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted - for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things - some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.

For us, they packed up their few worldly possessions and traveled across oceans in search of a new life.

For us, they toiled in sweatshops and settled the West; endured the lash of the whip and plowed the hard earth.

For us, they fought and died, in places like Concord and Gettysburg; Normandy and Khe Sanh.

Time and again these men and women struggled and sacrificed and worked till their hands were raw so that we might live a better life. They saw America as bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions; greater than all the differences of birth or wealth or faction.

This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions - that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.

For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act - not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology’s wonders to raise health care’s quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. All this we can do. And all this we will do.

Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions - who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short. For they have forgotten what this country has already done; what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage.

What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them - that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works - whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end. And those of us who manage the public’s dollars will be held to account - to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day - because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.

Nor is the question before us whether the market is a force for good or ill. Its power to generate wealth and expand freedom is unmatched, but this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control - and that a nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous. The success of our economy has always depended not just on the size of our Gross Domestic Product, but on the reach of our prosperity; on our ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart - not out of charity, but because it is the surest route to our common good.

As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our Founding Fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience’s sake. And so to all other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and that we are ready to lead once more.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

We are the keepers of this legacy. Guided by these principles once more, we can meet those new threats that demand even greater effort - even greater cooperation and understanding between nations. We will begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people, and forge a hard-earned peace in Afghanistan. With old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet. To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society’s ills on the West - know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.

To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds. And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world’s resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.

As we consider the road that unfolds before us, we remember with humble gratitude those brave Americans who, at this very hour, patrol far-off deserts and distant mountains. They have something to tell us today, just as the fallen heroes who lie in Arlington whisper through the ages. We honor them not only because they are guardians of our liberty, but because they embody the spirit of service; a willingness to find meaning in something greater than themselves. And yet, at this moment - a moment that will define a generation - it is precisely this spirit that must inhabit us all.

For as much as government can do and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies. It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours. It is the firefighter’s courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a parent’s willingness to nurture a child, that finally decides our fate.

Our challenges may be new. The instruments with which we meet them may be new. But those values upon which our success depends - hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism - these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history. What is demanded then is a return to these truths. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility - a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.

This is the price and the promise of citizenship.

This is the source of our confidence - the knowledge that God calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny.

This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed - why men and women and children of every race and every faith can join in celebration across this magnificent mall, and why a man whose father less than sixty years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath.

So let us mark this day with remembrance, of who we are and how far we have traveled. In the year of America’s birth, in the coldest of months, a small band of patriots huddled by dying campfires on the shores of an icy river. The capital was abandoned. The enemy was advancing. The snow was stained with blood. At a moment when the outcome of our revolution was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the people:

"Let it be told to the future world...that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive...that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it]."

America. In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children’s children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God’s grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.

第44任美国总统奥巴马于20日正式就职，这对底特律是个利好的消息。因为奥巴马多次在公开场合表示，为美国本国汽车厂商提供资金是“当务之急”，并表示政府对于本国汽车厂商所提供的帮助应该“更加尽可能的满足其所需”。

在一项网易调查中有一半的网友认为奥巴马有能力拯救底特律。奥巴马喜欢篮球，也喜欢时不时溜出去抽支烟。最近人们还了解到，他还是个爱车之人。不过有人评论说他之前买了一辆地球上最不利于政治生涯的车：克莱斯勒300C。克莱斯勒300C扭矩高，马力足，耗油量大，眩酷至极。这似乎彰显着一个人的野心。

1、主推新能源车，已是毫无悬念

以后“三大”要想获得更多的政府救助，也必须遵循这一大方向，美政府给的一分钱都应该是投在研发新能源车上。好在三巨头还是比较听话，纷纷发布若干“新能源车”的研发计划，同时在北美车展上也做起了“新能源车”秀，其意在表决心。在08年8月初，奥巴马就公布了一揽子能源计划，称将在未来10年投入 1500亿美元发展包括“绿色”汽车技术在内的新能源技术。此外，该计划还包括向购买混合动力车的消费者提供税收优惠。他表示，将提供单车7000美元的税收减免措施，以鼓励消费者购买节能环保汽车，并设定了“到2015年，100万辆插电式混合动力车要在美国道路上行驶”的目标。在密歇根州的竞选演讲中，奥巴马还表示，如果他当选，将利用40亿美元联邦政府资金，支持美国“三大”推进新能源汽车市场化。

2、“三大”变“两大”更适当

奥巴马曾希望克莱斯勒和通用两大汽车集团能合并，这样政府的救援可能会更加有力，而且合并之后可以资源共享，优劣互补。但这不过是一个理想的模式罢了。合并消息一出，立即遭到全美汽车工人联合会的强烈反对。两家公司一旦合并，不可避免会导致很多人失业，很多上下游的产业链企业倒闭。

有分析机构指出，如果通用与克莱斯勒合并，克莱斯勒将关闭半数工厂，生产线将从27条减至16条，两者合并最终将裁减北美地区最高达20万名的员工。合并谈何容易，触及的利益层太多。

长痛不如短痛，兼并重组是汽车业未来发展的大趋势。与其陷入困境、难以脱身，不如大刀阔斧砍掉一些“坏骨头”，以一个新的生命来获得新生。这过程当然会很痛，但痛过之后，或许会发现以后的路走得更顺、更快。

3、开征利润税加速美汽车业升级

奥巴马曾在竞选演讲中明确表示要对石油公司的巨额利润开征利润税，通过利润税转移，来支持美国汽车产业更快地进入绿色车型的研发和应用。他甚至承诺会直接把这笔石油利润税收入中的一部分拿出来给美国消费者们派发红包——“每人1000美元”的汽油补助来刺激汽车销售。美国国会去年9月批准一项专门面向汽车业、高达250亿美元的低息贷款项目，虽然这一项目的初衷是鼓励汽车业开发低能耗汽车，但却被视作可以帮助汽车业渡过难关的救命稻草。

奥巴马为底特律带来了新的希望，同时也为中国汽车业带来了一个启示：我们该走一条“新路”了。它应该是绿色的，联合的，可持续性的。

Fellow citizens: For eight years, it has been my honor to serve as your President. The first decade of this new century has been a period of consequence - a time set apart. Tonight, with a thankful heart, I have asked for a final opportunity to share some thoughts on the journey we have traveled together and the future of our Nation.
Five days from now, the world will witness the vitality of American democracy. In a tradition dating back to our founding, the presidency will pass to a successor chosen by you, the American people. Standing on the steps of the Capitol will be a man whose story reflects the enduring promise of our land. This is a moment of hope and pride for our whole Nation. And I join all Americans in offering best wishes to President-elect Obama, his wife Michelle, and their two beautiful girls.

Tonight I am filled with gratitude - to Vice President Cheney and members of the Administration; to Laura, who brought joy to this house and love to my life; to our wonderful daughters, Barbara and Jenna; to my parents, whose examples have provided strength for a lifetime. And above all, I thank the American people for the trust you have given me. I thank you for the prayers that have lifted my spirits. And I thank you for the countless acts of courage, generosity, and grace that I have witnessed these past eight years.
This evening, my thoughts return to the first night I addressed you from this house - September 11, 2001. That morning, terrorists took nearly 3,000 lives in the worst attack on America since Pearl Harbor. I remember standing in the rubble of the World Trade Center three days later, surrounded by rescuers who had been working around the clock. I remember talking to brave souls who charged through smoke-filled corridors at the Pentagon and to husbands and wives whose loved ones became heroes aboard Flight 93. I remember Arlene Howard, who gave me her fallen son's police shield as a reminder of all that was lost. And I still carry his badge.
As the years passed, most Americans were able to return to life much as it had been before Nine-Eleven. But I never did. Every morning, I received a briefing on the threats to our Nation. And I vowed to do everything in my power to keep us safe.

Over the past seven years, a new Department of Homeland Security has been created. The military, the intelligence community, and the FBI have been transformed. Our Nation is equipped with new tools to monitor the terrorists' movements, freeze their finances, and break up their plots. And with strong allies at our side, we have taken the fight to the terrorists and those who support them. Afghanistan has gone from a nation where the Taliban harbored al Qaeda and stoned women in the streets to a young democracy that is fighting terror and encouraging girls to go to school. Iraq has gone from a brutal dictatorship and a sworn enemy of America to an Arab democracy at the heart of the Middle East and a friend of the United States.
There is legitimate debate about many of these decisions. But there can be little debate about the results. America has gone more than seven years without another terrorist attack on our soil. This is a tribute to those who toil day and night to keep us safe - law enforcement officers, intelligence analysts, homeland security and diplomatic personnel, and the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.
Our Nation is blessed to have citizens who volunteer to defend us in this time of danger. I have cherished meeting these selfless patriots and their families. America owes you a debt of gratitude. And to all our men and women in uniform listening tonight: There has been no higher honor than serving as your Commander in Chief.
The battles waged by our troops are part of a broader struggle between two dramatically different systems. Under one, a small band of fanatics demands total obedience to an oppressive ideology, condemns women to subservience, and marks unbelievers for murder. The other system is based on the conviction that freedom is the universal gift of Almighty God and that liberty and justice light the path to peace.
This is the belief that gave birth to our Nation. And in the long run, advancing this belief is the only practical way to protect our citizens. When people live in freedom, they do not willingly choose leaders who pursue campaigns of terror. When people have hope in the future, they will not cede their lives to violence and extremism. So around the world, America is promoting human liberty, human rights, and human dignity. We are standing with dissidents and young democracies, providing AIDS medicine to bring dying patients back to life, and sparing mothers and babies from malaria. And this great republic born alone in liberty is leading the world toward a new age when freedom belongs to all nations.
For eight years, we have also strived to expand opportunity and hope here at home. Across our country, students are rising to meet higher standards in public schools. A new Medicare prescription drug benefit is bringing peace of mind to seniors and the disabled. Every taxpayer pays lower income taxes. The addicted and suffering are finding new hope through faith-based programs. Vulnerable human life is better protected. Funding for our veterans has nearly doubled. America's air, water, and lands are measurably cleaner. And the Federal bench includes wise new members like Justice Sam Alito and Chief Justice John Roberts.
When challenges to our prosperity emerged, we rose to meet them. Facing the prospect of a financial collapse, we took decisive measures to safeguard our economy. These are very tough times for hardworking families, but the toll would be far worse if we had not acted. All Americans are in this together. And together, with determination and hard work, we will restore our economy to the path of growth. We will show the world once again the resilience of America's free enterprise system.

Like all who have held this office before me, I have experienced setbacks. There are things I would do differently if given the chance. Yet I have always acted with the best interests of our country in mind. I have followed my conscience and done what I thought was right. You may not agree with some tough decisions I have made. But I hope you can agree that I was willing to make the tough decisions.
The decades ahead will bring more hard choices for our country, and there are some guiding principles that should shape our course.
While our Nation is safer than it was seven years ago, the gravest threat to our people remains another terrorist attack. Our enemies are patient and determined to strike again. America did nothing to seek or deserve this conflict. But we have been given solemn responsibilities, and we must meet them. We must resist complacency. We must keep our resolve. And we must never let down our guard.
At the same time, we must continue to engage the world with confidence and clear purpose. In the face of threats from abroad, it can be tempting to seek comfort by turning inward. But we must reject isolationism and its companion, protectionism. Retreating behind our borders would only invite danger. In the 21st century, security and prosperity at home depend on the expansion of liberty abroad. If America does not lead the cause of freedom, that cause will not be led.
As we address these challenges - and others we cannot foresee tonight - America must maintain our moral clarity. I have often spoken to you about good and evil. This has made some uncomfortable. But good and evil are present in this world, and between the two there can be no compromise. Murdering the innocent to advance an ideology is wrong every time, everywhere. Freeing people from oppression and despair is eternally right. This Nation must continue to speak out for justice and truth. We must always be willing to act in their defense and to advance the cause of peace.
President Thomas Jefferson once wrote, "I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past." As I leave the house he occupied two centuries ago, I share that optimism. America is a young country, full of vitality, constantly growing and renewing itself. And even in the toughest times, we lift our eyes to the broad horizon ahead.

I have confidence in the promise of America because I know the character of our people. This is a Nation that inspires immigrants to risk everything for the dream of freedom. This is a Nation where citizens show calm in times of danger and compassion in the face of suffering. We see examples of America's character all around us. And Laura and I have invited some of them to join us in the White House this evening.
We see America's character in Dr. Tony Recasner, a principal who opened a new charter school from the ruins of Hurricane Katrina. We see it in Julio Medina, a former inmate who leads a faith-based program to help prisoners returning to society. We see it in Staff Sergeant Aubrey McDade, who charged into an ambush in Iraq and rescued three of his fellow Marines.
We see America's character in Bill Krissoff, a surgeon from California. His son Nathan, a Marine, gave his life in Iraq. When I met Dr. Krissoff and his family, he delivered some surprising news: He told me he wanted to join the Navy Medical Corps in honor of his son. This good man was 60 years old - 18 years above the age limit. But his petition for a waiver was granted, and for the past year he has trained in battlefield medicine. Lieutenant Commander Krissoff could not be here tonight, because he will soon deploy to Iraq, where he will help save America's wounded warriors and uphold the legacy of his fallen son.
In citizens like these, we see the best of our country - resilient and hopeful, caring and strong. These virtues give me an unshakable faith in America. We have faced danger and trial, and there is more ahead. But with the courage of our people and confidence in our ideals, this great Nation will never tire ... never falter ... and never fail.
It has been the privilege of a lifetime to serve as your President. There have been good days and tough days. But every day I have been inspired by the greatness of our country and uplifted by the goodness of our people. I have been blessed to represent this Nation we love. And I will always be honored to carry a title that means more to me than any other: citizen of the United States of America.
And so, my fellow Americans, for the final time: Good night. May God bless this house and our next President. And may God bless you and our wonderful country.

As George W. Bush vacates the White House, his twin daughters have passed on some advice to the Obama girls -- find loyal friends, slide down the banisters, and remember who your dad really is.

Barbara and Jenna Bush, 27, reflected on their years in the White House in an open letter to 10-year-old Malia Obama and her 7-year-old sister Sasha, in the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.

"We also first saw the White House through the innocent, optimistic eyes of children," they wrote, acknowledging their seven-year-old perspectives when their grandfather George Bush was sworn in as the 41st president in 1989.

"Our seven-year-old imaginations soared as we played in the enormous, beautiful rooms."

The twins returned to the White House in 2001 after their father was elected 43rd president of the United States.

"The White House welcomed us back and there is no doubt that it is a magical place at any age," wrote Jenna, an author and school teacher, and Barbara, who has worked for various museums and charities.

The twins advised the Obama girls to "absorb it all, enjoy it all," as four years goes by fast. But they also gave more specific advice:

- surround yourself with loyal friends

- if you're traveling with your parents over Halloween, don't let it stop you from doing what you would normally do

- cherish your animals "because sometimes you'll need the quiet comfort that only animals can provide"

- slide down the banister of the solarium, go to T-ball games, have swimming parties, and play sardines on the White House lawn. Have fun and enjoy your childhood

- when your dad throws out the first pitch for the Yankees, go to the game

- in fact, go to anything and everything you possibly can

But they cautioned the Obama girls that life as the First Daughters would not always be easy with their father portrayed differently than they know him.

"Many people will think they know him, but they have no idea how he felt the day you were born, the pride he felt on your first day of school, or how much you both love being his daughters," they wrote.

"So here is our most important piece of advice: remember who your dad really is."

曾吹嘘自己的父亲是非洲王子

　　奥巴马在成长过程中曾遭遇两种认同危机，一个是种族认同，一个是信仰认同。奥巴马10岁的时候回到美国，上的是比较好的学校，白人孩子占绝大多数，只有3个黑人小孩，奥巴马是其中之一。因为自己的肤色与学校里的大多数同学不一样，奥巴马产生严重的身份认同危机。

　　在《我父亲的梦想》一书中，奥巴马提到，有一天，外祖母很生气地回到家，奥巴马问怎么回事，外祖母抱怨说当她在等车时，一个人向她讨钱，那个人很过分，给了他一美元，还不断地要，如果公交没来，外祖母认为那个恼羞成怒的人将会动手打她。奥巴马建议外祖父给外祖母买辆车。外祖父说，其实外祖母以前也被这种人打扰过，但她这次很生气的真正原因是那个向她讨钱的家伙是个黑人。外祖父全然不顾奥巴马的感受说出了实情，这些话深深地伤害了奥巴马的心灵，也激起了他心中最原始的恐惧。

　　为了给自己寻找自信，奥巴马吹嘘说自己的父亲是非洲的王子。据奥巴马在夏威夷畔纳荷中学就读时的一位同学回忆:“他是善于交际的活跃分子，积极向上。经常跟我们说他爸爸是一位非洲国家的王子，是位让他为之自豪的成功领导人。”而当他的生父有一天终于从非洲重新访问美国，并应邀来奥巴马的学校演讲的时候，奥巴马就坐在听演讲的同学中间，他把头埋得很深，觉得非常没有面子。奥巴马爸爸的演讲很成功，老师完全被折服了，对奥巴马说:“你有一位很了不起的父亲。”同学们也并未因奥巴马撒谎而嘲笑他，大家不仅对奥巴马父亲的演讲报以热烈的掌声，过后还对奥巴马说，你父亲很酷。但是这些鼓励并不能解除奥巴马心中的肤色自卑。

曾是吸毒的街头混混

　　在奥巴马奋起反抗心中的自卑感和堕落的冲动之前，他经历过一段街头混混的生涯。

　　2008年初，当奥巴马和希拉里的选战如火如荼地进行着的时候，希拉里的支持者、黑人娱乐电视的创办人鲍勃·约翰逊站出来批评奥巴马说:“当克林顿和希拉里满怀热情地参与黑人事业，奥巴马还在某个街区酗酒吸毒呢。”一位南卡罗来纳议员认为这是对奥巴马严重的人身攻击。对此希拉里表态说，鲍勃·约翰逊的话只代表他个人的观点。

　　奥巴马在自己的传记里对自己曾一度酗酒吸毒的经历毫不讳言。他在自传《我父亲的梦想》中回忆说:“我在十几岁的时候是个瘾君子。当时，我与任何一个绝望的黑人青年一样，不知道生命的意义何在。”他曾在夏威夷海滩和印度尼西亚街头游荡逃学，“过了一段荒唐的日子，做了很多愚蠢的事”。“中学时候的我是每一个老师的噩梦，没人知道该拿我怎么办。”

　　有趣的是，前总统克林顿年轻时也抽过大麻，与奥巴马不同的是，诚实的奥巴马大大方方说他抽大麻的往事，不诚实的克林顿则说他年轻时抽大麻时尝试了一下，“但未吸进去”，这样的自我撇清成为美国人的笑柄。

　　奥巴马在芝加哥社区做社区组织工作的时候曾处理过一次危机。在一次会议上，一大批同事集体辞职，因为他们觉得太累了，辛辛苦苦干了两年，收获却不大。奥巴马发表了一次小型的演讲:“你们说很累，其实这儿的大多数人都很累。我们来这儿并不是需要一份薪水，而是因为想改进这儿的社区服务。我不介意过去发生了什么，我只知道，在这儿和你们一起工作，我们一定可以改变目前的一些现状，如果你们认为和我一起工作后，什么改进也没有，那么首先需要辞职的人是我而不是你们。”大家对奥巴马的言论很惊讶，他们都答应留下来继续想想办法。从这件小事可以发现，奥巴马很会做说服工作。

　　芝加哥的社区服务经历使奥巴马决心从政，奥巴马一旦决定从政以后，定位相当清楚，就是要竞选地位尽可能高的公职，而要胜任这样的公职必须要有为公众服务的知识和能力，于是，他决定报考哈佛法学院，攻读法学博士学位。

　　奥巴马在读哈佛法学院时，仍然残留了一些早年桀骜不驯的性格。因为违章停车，他总共领到十七张罚单，但他只肯支付两张。直到十七年后准备竞选总统的两周前，他才决定把账付清。

拥有肯尼迪式的魅力

　　在小布什越来越令人厌恶的时候，美国人最渴望的是出现一个讨人喜欢的总统，这就使得奥巴马生逢其时。

　　奥巴马本人的俊朗形象和一流口才加上美国人对以小布什为领军人物的新保守主义、新帝国主义的内外交困局面的失望，导致奥巴马所提倡的“变革”深得人心。关于奥巴马的各种论调勾起了许多人对往事的回忆，这种回忆是令人陶醉的，其中的感觉混合了对约翰·肯尼迪、罗伯特·肯尼迪和马丁·路德·金的怀念。

　　2008年1月28日，总统大选激战正酣，在美国政坛举足轻重的爱德华·肯尼迪宣布支持奥巴马角逐民主党总统候选人提名。爱德华·肯尼迪是先后遇刺身亡的前总统约翰·肯尼迪与前司法部长罗伯特·肯尼迪唯一尚在人世的兄弟。现年76岁的爱德华在美国政坛颇具影响力，是肯尼迪家族的领军人物。

　　当天，爱德华·肯尼迪和肯尼迪总统之女卡罗琳·肯尼迪出席了在华盛顿美国大学校园内举行的竞选集会。爱德华对奥巴马赞誉有加:“有了奥巴马，我们就可以告别充斥着歪曲和误读的旧式政治，告别种族对立、性别对立、族群对立，乃至异性恋和同性恋的对立。”同场亮相的还有肯尼迪家族另一位成员——众议员帕特里克·肯尼迪。在这次集会上，肯尼迪参议员指出，奥巴马继承了他哥哥的遗风。同时，卡罗琳在《纽约时报》上撰文称，奥巴马是唯一能像她父亲那样激励一整代美国人的政治家:“我从没遇到过一位能像我父亲打动别人那样打动我的总统。但是这次，我相信这样的人已经出现了——他不光能打动我，而是能打动新一代美国人。”

　　奥巴马与前总统约翰·肯尼迪的确有几分神似。奥巴马和肯尼迪都曾是哈佛大学毕业，都是参议员出身，都因在民主党全国代表大会上的精彩发言而一夜走红，也都写过很畅销的书。肯尼迪在1956年出版的《勇敢者的画像》成为一部历久不衰的畅销书，译成了好几十种文字，并为他赢得了普利策传记文学奖；而时隔50年，全面阐述奥巴马政治理念和政策主张的《无畏的希望:重申美国梦》则在《纽约时报》排行榜逗留达三个月，甚至有些选民就是因为看了《无畏的希望》才决定转投民主党和奥巴马的。

　　在亲和力上奥巴马也与肯尼迪十分相似。在参议院期间，肯尼迪奔走各地，触摸民心，并在就任总统后不久便推出了一系列改善民生的政策主张。他长期旗帜鲜明地为穷人争取权益，努力推动促进社会公平的法案。

　　像肯尼迪一样，奥巴马也善于俘虏媒体和年轻人。肯尼迪当年之所以能够战胜尼克松，电视的力量功不可没，奥巴马的人气激增也得益于媒体，尤其是网络和电视。年轻网民不仅为奥巴马聚敛了大量的人气，网民的小额捐款还为奥巴马带来超过希拉里的财气。

　　另外，奥巴马与肯尼迪都是总统候选人中的“另类”，肯尼迪当年开创的是信奉天主教(美国主流民众信奉基督教新教)的候选人入主白宫的历史，而奥巴马的目标是成为美国第一位黑人总统。

　　在精神和信仰层面，奥巴马与肯尼迪的相似之处是一种开创未来的历史感。正如雨果·孟斯特堡所言:“将美国人与他的同胞紧密联系在一起的既不是种族，也不是传统，更不是过去的历史，而是他们共同创造的未来。”换言之，许多人尤其是黑人与年轻人对奥巴马的支持，也同样饱含着对未来的一种憧憬，像奥巴马一样，他们也相信:梦想可以超越种族和肤色。而梦想，也许就起飞自当下的选择中。
