Canada has created 400,000 new jobs in 2002, but only accepted 230,000 new immrgrants in 2002, I don't know why you can not find a job. It seems that there is over 100,000 gap between new jobs and new candidates. If that case goes on, Canada may have to issue some temporary work visa to foreigners, like USA H1-B.

, Please do not have any day dream about small business.  If you are under age 50, you should have chance to find some work to support yourself.  It is important to try to gain not try to save.  You even can find cutting cloth job in cloth factory.  I believe that your wife could not handle that much work if you expect her to earn $3000/m.  You should work togather to start new life here.  It will be a better way to do your research about the local market.
