Stephen Harper's prescription: conservatives need to drop the ideological abstractions that have detached them from the electorate and worry more about solving real problems faced by working families. This means pushing back against the “elite consensus” that has formed around the benefits of market economies, trade, globalization and immigration -- an approach he calls “populist conservatism.”
