The workers are considered to be the cost and cost is against the profit making for the business. As in ESA, the employment standards act, workers can let go for no reasons as long as giving notice or pay in lieu of notice, the Law itself treats worker as numbers.
Once workers have joined union then ESA will not apply any more, and Labour Relation Act applies to unionized workers and in this law, workers cannot be fired without Just Cause. Just cause is a very high standard for the employer to justify the job dismissal in labour arbitration process, some senior workers could not be fired even they commit minor crimes such as theft.
