华裔移民：拥抱“圣诞”也是我的心愿

Like it or not, Christmas is a religious holiday to begin with.  It also has an element of culture and tradition especially after religion does not play such an important role as in the past in our society.

Christmas is not just on Dec 25.  It is on Jan 7 in Russia and some other countries.  If Russia were the only super power instead of the US, more people on this planet may celebrate Christmas on the Jan 7th.  

My opinion on Christmas is have some fun and exchange greetings with people around but you don't have to celebrate it if you are not deep down attached to the religion or tradition part.  Instead, feel free to celebrate Chinese New Year to which you are traditionally and culturally attached.  And don't be shy to talk about Chinese New Year and our tradition at work.  It is how you can get respect.  If you don't respect who you are and how can you get respect from others?  Don't hesitate to take a day off on Chinese New Year.

Diversity and multiculturalism are part of Canadian values.  We all should embrace for these values through our actions.  How can you make Canada your hometown?  I am sure there many roads to Rome but one of them is not just follow suit to keep the status quo but to lead in shaping Canadian culture for Canadian prosperity in the future.  The more Chinese elements in Canadian cultures, the more sense of homeland you will have in Canada.  The more contributions you do to Canada, the more likely you could bring in more elements you are familiar with in Canadian culture.  Chinese Canadians can definitely help Canada prosper in the future.
