主题演讲:家长对孩子成功的影响
CPAC基金会邀请了三位曾获得过CPAC高中、大学奖学金的优秀学子的家长给大家分享他们的育儿经。三位获奖学子都是来自移民家庭、成绩优异、全面发展并特别关注社区服务、热心公益,还凸显较强的领导才能的“全科状元”:一位是哈佛大学博士毕业、现已工作的专业人士,一位是宾夕法尼亚大学沃顿商学院的在读大学生,还有一位是今年刚刚高中毕业已被女王大学录取的大一新生。三位优秀学子的父母现身说法,分享他们在孩子成长过程中,对孩子的引导和心得。现场还安排了互动问答环节。
三位演讲嘉宾介绍:
James Xu is a softwareengineer, realtor, published poet and education columnist. Mr. Xu is aco-founder of Toronto Education Research Association (TERA).
James’s son, Wenxin Xu, the winner of2006 CPAC Prestigious Scholarship, got his BS and MD from Harvard University.He now is working in Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.
Carrie Yang, MBA. Ms. Yangworked as Assistant General Manager of a joint venture with China Merchant SheKou Port Authority. She had also worked at CIBC. Carrie has been /is involved inthe Parents’ Association for University of Toronto Schools as the GradeRepresentative (for how many years?). She also volunteered as the DECA judgeand was in the Board of Directors of TSCC 1608 (of a condo corp.).
Carrie’s daughter, Angela Chen, the winner of2011 CPAC Grade 10 Award, graduated from University of Toronto Schools. She iscurrently studying at the University of Pennsylvania, as a junior of theHuntsman Dual Degree Program in International Studies and Business.  She is a Dean’s List Award recipient of bothCollege of Arts & Sciences and Wharton; and winner of The US NationalSociety of Collegiate Scholars for both her freshman and sophomore years. Inher spare time, Angela enjoys travelling, Latin American culture and reggaetonmusic. – Angela is currently taking a semester abroad at the University ofHavana to fulfill her interests.
Shaoxi (Scott) Zheng, has a master’sdegree of computer science, and is working as an oracle DBA at TD bank. Mr.Zheng won GTA badminton double No.2-non-professional. His family moved toCanada 10 years ago.
Scott’s son, Newton Zheng, the winner of2014 CPAC Grade 11 Award, is a philanthropic youth with a passion for communityservice. He is the Co-Founder and Co-Chair of Project 5K, Founder and Chair ofSJMF Youth, and Systems Programmer at BTNX Inc. He was the "Night itup" volunteer president. He contributed over 1000 volunteer hours from2014 to 2015. Newton is competitive in sports as well as in academics. He wonthe Top Mark Award—95 at his secondary school, and received over 10scholarships from different organizations, such as TD, CPAC, etc. He is also anational level badminton athlete. He was accepted to all seven universities heapplied to, and ultimately chose the one he liked best—Queen’s University.

本届CPAC“教育日”活动形式更紧凑,内容更贴合当前热门的教育话题。活动当天既有教育机构设立展位,与学生和家长面对面的交流,又有一场主题演讲及三场不同教育相关主题的热门讲座。基于往届活动的经验,今年在讲题方面更多侧重于家长和学生共同感兴趣的话题,并且大部分讲座用中文讲解

Howcan the kid grow to be a straight-A student and an all-rounder? What’s theimpact of parents on students success? Please come to attend October 24’s CPAC EducationDay (Pre-register for the event at: http://cpac2015eday.eventbrite.com)and listen to this keynote presentation:
Apanel of three parents of previous years’ CPAC Award/Scholarship recipientswill share their experience and insights on parenting. As the title “Impact ofParents on Student Success” suggests, the presentation will introduce differentstyles of parenting and their impact on a child’s success.

Informationabout the 8th CPAC Education Day
The 8th CPAC Education Daywill be held on Saturday, October 24th, 2015 at a public secondaryschool in North York (100 Princess Avenue,North York, ON M2N 3R7). All parents and students are welcome at this free event.
The goal of CPAC Education Day is tohelp immigrant families understand the education system and prepare theirchildren for their academic future. The event allows parents to make informeddecisions through the advice of exhibitors and experienced speakers. Manyschools and educational institutions will exhibit on site and providemini-information sessions. A keynote presentation and three breakout workshopswill be tailored to the needs of parents and students.
CPAC Education Day is comprised of a Conferenceand Education Info Fair. Many colleges, universities and education-relatedservice providers will attend this year’s event, offering ample opportunitiesfor participants to learn everything they want to know about Canadianeducation.
