假设1个艾滋病人一年传染2个人，而这2个人第二年又分别传染2个人，那么5年后就是2的5次方，即32个，而不是 2（个） X 5（年） = 10
。
假设1个艾滋病人一年传染5个人，而这5个人第二年又分别传染5个人。那么，从第一个艾滋病人出现开始，到第10年，就是5的10次方 即 5 X 5 X 5 ...... X 5 = 9765625 人，即接近 1000万人！！

20,056 people have tested positive for HIV in Toronto since 1985. This represents 65% of all HIV-positive test reports in Ontario.

Men have accounted for 87.5% of all positive HIV test reports in Toronto since 1985. 82% of all infections among men in Toronto have been among gay, bisexual men, and other men who have sex with men.

Women have accounted for 12.5% of all positive HIV test reports in Toronto since 1985. 48% of all infections among women in Toronto have been among women from countries with high rates of HIV.

Mode of HIV Transmission in Toronto, 1985 - 2009:
■Gay and bisexual men and other men who have sex with men (MSM): 71.3%
■Injection drug users (IDU: 4.4%
■People from countries with high rates of HIV: 11.7%
■Women: 12.5%


Most Recent Trends (2008 - 2009)

596 Torontonians were diagnosed as HIV-positive in 2009. In 2008, the number was 612. It is estimated that the number of people who were actually infected with HIV in Toronto in 2009 was almost 975 people.

Gay, bisexual men and other MSM accounted for 69% of all new HIV diagnoses in 2009, while women accounted for 18% of new HIV diagnoses. For women, 53.5% of all diagnoses were among women from countries with high rates of HIV.

Mode of HIV Transmission in Toronto, 2009:
■Gay and bisexual men and other men who have sex with men (MSM): 69%.
■Injection drug users (IDU): 3%
■People from countries with high rates of HIV infection: 15%
