Some experiences  to share:

Buy a bottle of Guarantee pass from Canadian Tire at the cost of  $9.99, fill the gas tank full with the liquid you bought, drive about 250KM till the gas tank to almost empty,  fill it with the super clean gas, and go for a test. If your car doesn’t have big problem, you’re guaranteed to pass.

If your car is old and even if you did the above it didn’t pass, you still have the choice:

Ask for a diagnostic check from the inspection station, go ahead with the repair, but don’t need to pay more than $ 450 ( including emission test, diagnostic check , repair and the second test- the second test if you do it at the same place should be half the price), when all of the above have been done, even if your car still  can’t pass the emission test, you  can get a conditional pass, which allows you to use the car for another 2 years.
