Schools in hold and secure due to manhunt

Eight schools in Toronto's east end are in a hold and secure situation as a precaution as police officers look for an 18-year-old man who is considered armed and dangerous.
The TDSB said Courcelette Public School, four junior public schools - Adam Beck, Williamson Road, Kew Beach and Norway - Bowmore Road Junior and Senior Public School, Balmy Beach Community School and Glen Ames Senior Public School are in hold and secure, as of 1:35 p.m.
Police set up a perimeter in the Kingston Road and Woodbine Avenue area at about 12:20 p.m. after the man, who may be armed with a firearm, ran from officers, said police spokesman Const. Tony Vella.
The man is wanted for a stabbing that occurred recently, Vella told CP24.
Heavily-armed members of the emergency task force are looking for the man.
Vella said children in the schools are safe, and no one can enter the schools because their exterior doors are locked.
TDSB spokesman Ryan Bird said the schools will remain in hold and secure until police tell them the situation is clear.
Classes are continuing as scheduled.
Vella said the man police are looking for is named Nicholas Dylan-Jack.
He is black, five-foot-five and 140 pounds with a moustache, cornrows and a tattoo of Toronto on his right forearm, Vella said.
Barrie campus locked down
Meanwhile, students and staff at Georgian College's Barrie campus were told to take cover and hide in dark rooms during a lockdown Thursday afternoon.
Barrie police said officers were called to the campus after a complaint about a weapon.
There were unconfirmed reports that a person armed with a firearm was on campus property, CTV Barrie reported.
During the lockdown, media services technician Hans Jalloul told CP24 he and about 10 others were hiding in a room with the lights turned off.
"We're kind of just waiting it out," Jalloul said.
Police cleared the scene a short time later, saying there were no safety concerns.
