Mr. Tu's behavior is not acceptable and irresponsible.
First of all, how could Mr. Tu give up his life that easy? Leaving a 3 year old lovely daughter behind? Leaving parents, wife and friends just like that? (If he has some illness like cancer and wants to shorten his painful journey, that is another case. But still, suicide is not a good choice. At least, he should wait his daugher to grow up a little bit and have the memory of him.) This is not acceptable.
Second, being the top in school does not mean anything. Thinking about, how many other factors contributing to a super student:
1. Parents background (if you are born in a mountain now, the chance you can go to America for a PHD would be almost zero. It does not matter how hard you work and how smart you are. I know there are a lot of "Qian Xue Sen" and "Hua Luo Geng" making a hard living in mountains or cities' labour market now. (Not sure, the HOPE project is still working)
2. Good early educations from primary school, middle school and high school in your region. ( If you met sucks teachers even in a pretty school, your future would be compromised. The competition for going to university was rigorous in 80's and 90's)
3. Your family and friends' supports over the years. (You may not care about them but yourself.)
4. Good and stable society ( No political movements like Culture Revolution, 89' Tiananmen Square )
5. Good political and international environment ( At least, America offers you VISA and China allows you to go out. If you were a North Korean, the thing would be very different. ).
.........
Therefore, WAKE UP, suicide to be PHD's, it does not matter you are an inland PHD or overseas PHD. Do not be a sucker and taker all your life. At least, you should take care of your parents and your children. They are innocent and vulnerable. You are a person, not some stupid "top geniues" which means nothing to anybody else. You have OBLIGATIONS! You have no right to conduct suicide to let your family, people and country down. Suicide is irresponsible. |
