训练方法三：增加文化背景知识，丰富语言表达。

每一次课都会提供一篇与课堂内容相关的社会文化知识的阅读材料，目的是利用你的阅读能力，加强巩固已学的话题内容，同时在老师的指导下围绕阅读材料进行讨论，交流甚至辩论。课后还将布置书面作业。书面作业的形式也是多样的，一篇日记，一段读后感或评论，旨在帮助老师评估学生语言技能的掌握，同时给学生提供练笔的机会。

This is the way that we learn English in China. We all know that this does not work at all.

你的语言接收（receptive）能力强于你的语言生产（productive）能力，也就是说你的听力和阅读技能好于口头交流和写作技能。造成你语言能力失衡的最主要原因是你过去一直在”学习”英语。

First, I don't understand what the author is trying to say.  Second, the author can't use the right words/vocabulary.  In English, we use decode or decoding for 语言接收, and code or coding for 语言生产.  These are psychology terms.  In everyday English, we use receptive and expressive - definitely not productive, respectively.


训练方法一：利用优势，取长补短。

This is a Chinese method.  Our capacity in a language is a result of our immersion into the local culture and society.  There is no such a formula to integrate their strength with our weakness.  To improve our English, we read English newspaper, watch English television, speak English with the locals and write English every single day.

English is a language of logic - a result of analytical philosophy, which does not exist in Chinese culture.

Chinese immigrants when presenting our argument don't know how to identify the core issues, create assumptions, toss in facts and opinions, before making conclusions.

三．结语

掌握任何一门技能都没有什么捷径，语言技能的获得尤为如此。如果你相信通过训练在短时间内英语就能说得象本地人一样，就等于相信你得了感冒你的医生告诉你吃了他开的药你就永远不会感冒一样。相信古老的智慧吧：Rome is not built in a day (罗马城不是一天建成的)。你拥有再好的语言环境，或者有幸碰到最好的老师，如果你缺乏内在动力，不付出辛苦,时间和汗水，一切都是徒劳无益。认真地审视自己，我究竟缺什么，最需要什么？然后再根据自己的需要找到适合自己的老师。只有有效的训练和指导才能使你受益非浅，事半功倍。相信自己，迈出第一步，就走向了成功的一半。You can be what you want to be!

Above is the conclusion in the essay.  You are super smart if you understand what the author is trying to tell you. There is a hidden agenda: come to Vic College.

Chinese can't learn English well since we use our Chinese thinking, Chinese logic (if any), Chinese vocabulary and Chinese culture, and translate all these in our use of English.

Language reflects who we are.  We can never master English before we change and accept English culture, society, logic and philosophy.
