A Real Story in Alberta

I met a fellow Chinese a month ago, who can speak fair English, with millwright ticket, and mechanical background in China,but had been working as labour worker in Toronto for more than 4 years, never has a job more than $15/H, and always complained it is hard to find a job in Calgary as well.

When I asked how he tried to find a job, I was so surprised that he sent less than 40 resumes in the last 4 years when doing labor work, and even did not send one resume when he was in Calgary.....seldom read a newspaper about job information but always had a bad information heard from his friends fail to find a job...He has a millwright ticket, but do not what kind, ...he could not find an agency while there are hundreds of hunting companies in the phone books and website...

I told him that he is waiting a job to look for him and not he looks for a job. He was very surprised what I say...

I was so surprised too that I have to force him to re-write the resume, to buy a newspaper and to send at least one resume a day, to copy general resumes to agencies, find any possible information about the tradesman...

Believe or not, it is very easy to find a trademan job here in Alberta earning above 100k a year..

You know what, one month later, he got 2 interviews and one job offer for a millwright job with more than $32/H and full benifits... he could not keep laughing with the well paid job which he dreamed for years above $20/H.

This is a story for your reference. Many people now know that it is easy to find a well paid job in Alberta, but still reluctantly to come to Alberta.

I would strongly recommand anyone in Toronto who is handy and like to find well paid job, do not mind the cold winter, and willing to work as trademan, Go Alberta.
