主讲: Chirs Smith，现任IBM的高级IT专家, 专门负责外包项目，对于中国文化有深厚的见解，并帮助过大量中国新移民朋友适应北美语言文化环境，本次英语Club活动将讨论非常轻松的问题：包括本地节日、文化、习俗，法律等，对于我们适应北美文化非常有帮助。

Married ( wife from China, met a work in Canada ); 2 kids 5 & 13 years old; Mother In-law visiting from China for 1 or 2 year - speaks no English;  I can speak a little bit of Mandarin. Work for IBM: Senior I.T. Specialist:  Develop and support programs for companies that have outsourced their Applications work to IBM 47 years old, enjoy: playing with kids, golfing, playing sports and exercising in general have reviewed/helped with job, university and immigration applications for wife's family and friends

Presentation:

Introduce myself：Have audience introduce themselves - telling me a bit about them Discuss the following, based on helping new Chinese immigrants Provide tips re: applying for jobs, interviews Emphasize the importance of ongoing English language courses (conversational and written ) to keep improving pronunciation and grammar.  

Need feedback to improve spoken and written English.  Talk English with Chinese friends as much as possible.  Get some native Canadian friends to talk with, get ongoing feedback from them on your grammar and pronunciation to help improve.  Improving English is very important for jobs.  Toronto is full of people from around the world; employers don't care where you are from but care about your English speaking and writing skills for good communication.

Provide tips re: dealing with Canadian and Provincial Governments: taxes etc.  All government forms are on the internet.  Police etc.

Answer any questions Depending on how the time is going: Review Canada's major Holidays/Special Days:  Christmas ( Dec 25 ), Boxing Day ( day after xmas ), New Years ( Jan 1 ), Valentine's Day (Mid Feb. ), St. Patrick's Day ( late March ), Good Friday & Easter Monday ( late April ), Mid May ( Mothers Day ), Father's Day ( late June ), Victoria Day ( late May ),  Canada Day ( start of July ), Civic Holiday ( start of August ),  , Labour Day ( Start of September), Thanks Giving ( mid Oct. ), Halloween ( end of October ), Remembrance Day ( Nov. 11).... will discuss further topics time permitting
