I am old (48), have a masters degree from China, work for the government as a senior manager and earn about 130K per year.  I have a house (3500 sq ft not including the walkout basement), 2 cars and a vacation property.  I earned all these in Canada.  When first came to Canada, I had nothing but a few pairs of underpants.

They didn't interview Helen either.

Helen came to Canada in 1988 from Shanghai when she was 21.  She didn't even have an extra pair of underpant for the next day.  Having no place to live, she sweet talked the girl sitting next to her in the flight to accommodate her for the night.  In 20 years, she has done almost every job.

Now, she has her own small business.  I don't know how much she is making, but she is putting aside over 60K per year for savings, plus investment returns.

Helen plans to retire in 5 years to live like a queen back in China.
