Hello MD,
Your article is very interesting and congratulations on your success! However I would like to write some thoughts:
First, you mentioned the schooling a doctor must complete in North America. We know that professional training is very important, so is that in the countries all over the world. But education or schooling should not be used as a tool to scare people. A doctor's expertise is finally determined by his or her ability to diagnose and manage patients in a caring and timely way. So my point is that education alone can't be an excuse for the systemic exclusion of foreign trained doctors.
Secondly, I realize that many people who go for MD program do have a huge debt waiting for them when they finish their school. But indeed, the debt is their own choice, because they anticipate higher salary or reward when they finish their training. How reasonable is that the newly grad MDs demand all the tax payers to take care of their debt and bills?! Besides, if Medicine were turned into somebody's financial motivation, people would only smell money instead of humanity. That would be a disaster for the medical system.
Of course I know that talking about morality is ridiculous in North America. But sometimes when dealing with people, especially in healthcare, we do need some principles and give a second thought beyond the material entity we are striving for.
Thanks for reading. |
