hi there

hello, 熊妈妈
you are so lucky as you have a wonderful job now of taking care of your own baby! i love all babies, they are so cute!
thanks for telling me primary and middle schools here also need TAs, i thought only universities had such positions and i am  a TA  now in my university.
as for my friend, the Russian girl who just got her teacher's certificate of being a English teacher in senior high school from Ontario teacher college, she is still seeking her job now.Probablly she has to start from being a TA in middle school, hopefully she can transfer to school board automaticlly in a few years.
Keep in touch and give my best wishes to your baby.   by the way, it's a girl or boy? :O

make sure of your enrolment

最初由[it'sme]发布
I am very happy to get so many useful information from you. Not like that education student, i am really a loser when we made my decision for my career in canada. I waste 2 years in the graduate school studying electronics, but still can not find job right now. Most of my classmates in the EE department  can not find job and have to continue as PHD student. That is really waste of resource. This time, i want to discard my 7 years experience and start from zero in new field. I hope i can succeed in the future. I hope you can give more information about this topic.

By the way, bilingual, do you have French background? how can you choose French as teachable subject?
please make sure you will be enrolled. the competition of entry is also high. otherwise, you will have to wait for another year.

It's not appropriate for a new immigrant to teach English which is her weakness. Why not teach math or science which is the strengthness of the new immigrants??

回复:teaching English

Unfortuantly, her major in Russia is English Literature and so do i . So we have no other choices but english teachers. However, now there is a good thing for us who wants to be a english teacher in middle school is that more and more ESL programms  are opened for immigrant children or teenages. Hopefully it would be a favor for us.

My only advice to u all is to attend a few classes of whichever level u choose to teach in a school, and then decide if u want to teach anymore. I did that before with my friend, who was born in England and speaks English and French and some Mandarin Chinese. She works in a High school. I was terrified by the grade 7 students. No way I'm going to teach them even if I could. If u really want to teach, choose science as your major.

thanks for your information. I know it is a hard work as a high school teacher. But i think if somebody else can do it, why can't i do it? anyway, it is relatively easy to find a teacher's job, not  like an electrical engineer's job in canada. Can you give more details about the kids in high school? are they very rude? And also, i choose math and science-physics as my teachable subject. do you think which one is better?

thanks!

It's said that Math, Science and French are the three most demanded subjects in Ontario schools. Good for you to choose math and science which includs also other three strands, i.e.  chemistry, earth/space and biology.
It's also said that grades 7 & 8, especially 8 are the most difficult students to teach because their physical development. Anyway, you have the power to control them - power the school gives you. If the student offences, you just say to him " out" of the classroom. He will face till suspension of the school. Don't worry.
If you applied for intermediate/senior division, you need two teachables - math and science.

Hello, Bilingual. i think you are studying in the program right now. How is your feeling? do you like it? or is your workload very heavy? I have never been in a undergradute program in canada. I wonder if you are very busy with your work. and also, how many courses do you take in a semester?

Thanks!
