Also I realize that most of my friends found the "decent" (or IT) jobs within one year, the fastest guy only took one month, that was in May 2001.  But after August 2001, I didn't hear any good news from my friends, some even gave up the landing paper.

Now the situation is quite critical, esp. for those fresh landed.

only two persons I know didn't get the contract extended, kind of laid-off lar.  I heard a few laid-offs for friends of my friends occasionally.  But I also heard some good news recently.  It is industry related, bad sectors are finance, telecom, like NT, Mutual fund companies, good sectors are small caps, retail.

I believe you need some lucks in finding a good job here, besides your technical background, sometimes people simply just didn't get the opportunities!  But I think everyone will have his/her chance, just a matter of sooner or later.
