今晨6点左右，当局接到报告赶往多伦多Bloor 夹Lansdowne地区，抓获1名用铁铲袭击浣熊（raccoons）的男子，他是53岁的Dong Nguyen，已被控虐待动物和持有危险武器的罪名。

多伦多动物服务组表示，有居民投诉，称有人用移土用的铁铲攻击1只刚出世不久的淙熊，于是报警。

A 53-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly beating a family of raccoons with a garden tool in his backyard.

The screams of an adult and her kits prompted neighbours to call 911. Officers arrested the suspect at a home on Rankin Crescent, near Bloor and Lansdowne, around 6:30 a.m.

An adult raccoon and her babies, possibly five of them, were beaten with a piece of wood, according to one witness.

When officers arrived at the scene they had a hard time tracking down the injured animals. The mother raccoon was carrying her injured kits to their den, which officers are still trying to find in order to track down other hurt babies.

Police say one of the baby animals will likely have to be put down.

Dong Nguyen is charged with animal cruelty and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was released and will appear in court July 13.

The nocturnal and dextrous creatures, known for creating messes out of garage bags and clawing their way into homes, pose a big problem for several people across the city. Toronto is considered to be the so-called raccoon capital of the world.
