In accordance with the Criminal Code, which is a Federal law and is applicable coast to coast in Canada, children under 10 cannot be left home alone; otherwise the parents will be charged with Failure to Provide Necessities.
For children 10 or above, there is no legislative regulation in Ontario whether they can be left home alone. The case law practice is for children 12 or under, parents will have to prove there is a safety plan in place, e.g. a neighbour within reach. For children 12 and over, Children's Aid must prove the safety plan is not sufficient, e.g. child is developmentally delayed to protect himself.作者: WTTO 时间: 2007-10-17 11:58
