Gauck’s remarks came on Friday during an interview with German newspaper Passauer Neue Presse. "Whoever brings to the public and acts on grounds of conscience deserves respect," said Gauck.
The president also said since Snowden’s revelations on US spying operations in June, he has been deeply troubled and wondered if it was safe to send emails and talk openly on the phone. "To be honest with you, I've also thought about whether I can still talk on the phone or send an email openly at all,” said Gauck, adding, “The fear that our telephone calls or emails will be intercepted and stored by foreign secret services limits our feeling of being free.”
Gauck has demanded Angela Merkel’s government to enter binding agreements with its allies to secure freedom of privacy.
“We have to make sure that even our allies' secret services respect the boundaries we find necessary here,” said the president.
A binding international agreement “should be created urgently to safeguard civil rights,” Guack added.
Meanwhile, Merkel and her ministers continue to claim they were first informed about the US spying programs from press reports despite a report published on July 22 by German weeklyDer Spiegel, which revealed that German intelligence services themselves used one of US National Security Agency’s most valuable spying programs.
In June, Snowden, an American former technical contractor for the NSA and a former employee of the CIA, leaked documents showing the US spied on the European Union and monitored up to a half-billion German telephone calls and internet activities each month.

Germans Protest US Spying Activities in Major Cities
In Germany, thousands of demonstrators have held protests against US spying activities in major cities, including Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg.

Despite high summer temperatures, activists from the Stop Watching US network organized the demonstrations, in as many as 35 major German cities on Saturday.
The protesters voiced support for former CIA employee Edward Snowden, who revealed worldwide internet and phone spying activities carried out by Washington’s National Security Agency (NSA).
In June, Snowden, leaked documents showing the US spied on the European Union and monitored up to a half-billion German telephone calls and internet activities each month.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel says the German government had no information on the NSA spying and that she raised the issue with US President Barack Obama last month. However, opposition groups remain skeptical of the chancellor's claims.
On July 26, German President Joachim Gauck said that Snowden deserved respect for defending freedom.
He urged Merkel to enter binding agreements with Germany's allies in order to secure freedom of privacy.
Snowden has been staying at the Moscow airport transit zone since June 23. He applied for temporary asylum in Russia last week.
The protesters on Saturday have also voiced support for US Army Private Bradley Manning, who was arrested in Iraq in 2010 for handing over classified files and documents to whistleblower website, WikiLeaks. He has been charged with espionage and about 20 other offenses.

不信大家可以走着瞧，我坚持认为地球上的英伦三岛人种与德意志人相互视对方为最大敌人、最可怕敌人，即：彼此的最大心病是对方，而不是地球上的其它人种、国家或民族。
1、二者的历史仇恨多而大；
2、二者的民族性格差别大、能力优势【强项】显然不同，相互瞧不起、又相互惧怕。
德意志人很有能力和力量，英国人种很有心计、特能欺骗和坑害异己【尤其是强大对手】。
我判断二者是暗较劲、一般不说出口、都玩心口不一。
实际情况很可能是：如果德意志人对世界的影响巨大则英国人种的长项没有很大的市场，反过来若英国人种对世界的影响巨大则德意志人的长项也难有很大的市场，德国人擅长制造业，日本人也擅长；可制造业搞的再好还是不如英国人种和犹太人玩假大空更有市场。
美国华尔街的犹太人一年折腾多少大钱？日本人拼命干活一年能赚钱多少？
我估计玩大钱德意志人、日本人玩不过犹太人，而玩政治德意志人、日本人则玩不过英国人种。 “我坚持认为地球上的英伦三岛人种与德意志人相互视对方为最大敌人”

我还没认清共同的压迫者呢，请告诉我是谁。 如果斯诺登是德裔美国人，则全世界的德意志人会深深地同情他。
如果自己的一个同胞有斯诺登的遭遇则任何一个人种的绝大多数人都会深深地同情之。
假设斯诺登是华裔美国人，地球上的大多数华人不会深深地同情他吗？ 斯诺登为中共高官雪中送炭真不值得。 我还没认清共同的压迫者呢，请告诉我是谁。

只有那些狗粮在这里歇斯底里地大骂斯诺登，因为他们的脑子除了舔美爹是没有自己的思想的。还得意洋洋的以为自己很普世,回头一看世界人民都普到另一边去了。 我是真的不知道而想知道啊。

我怎么感觉到普京领导的俄罗斯政府在应对斯诺登事件上一再故伎重演呢？好像是一次又一次地使用同一个模型谈相关问题，比较有规律，几头都占着而且能进能出。这么玩有利也有弊。
俄罗斯人的数学水平挺高，罗马尼亚、越南两国的年青人也曾在在国际数学大赛中取得优异成绩。
会不会俄罗斯人将数学造诣【比如数学模型】用于了外交？ 斯诺登为中共高官雪中送炭真不值得。

我推测主要是习近平、李克强的外交才干平庸，有理却说不过人家，胆子也不行。
