圣诞节哪里开门哪里不开门

Monday Dec. 25th Christmas Day

After all the hype and all the hustle, it’s finally here. You can open your presents, you can go visit family, you can go out to dinner or you can go see a movie. But with one remarkable exception, the only thing you can’t do is shop. Even all those 24 hour Wal-Marts are finally closed.

But for the first time, one mall in all of the G.T.A. will actually open its doors for business on Christmas Day. The Pacific Mall, at 4300 Steeles Ave. East in Markham - which has more than 400 stores -confirms it will open on December 25th from 11am to 10pm.

The shopping complex, which bills itself as North America’s "Largest Indoor Asian Mall," claims because it caters to a mostly ethnic and largely Asian client base, many of its customers don’t celebrate Christmas, and because it has a tourist designation, it argues it can legally open on the 25th – and believes it can attract a big crowd as the only game in town.

Otherwise, just about everything is shut tight. Here’s the list:

Open on Christmas Day

Some drug stores,
Gas stations,
Movie theatres,
Most restaurants
Closed on Christmas

Malls (with the exception noted above),
Grocery stores and supermarkets,
L.C.B.O./Beer stores,
Government offices,
Banks,
Libraries,
No mail delivery,
T.T.C. and GO on holiday schedule. Subways start at 9am.
Tuesday, Dec. 26th Boxing Day

As if you haven’t spent enough, it’s a free for all as Boxing Day bargain bonanzas begin. All the stores are open again and many will be trying to clear out whatever’s left over. Expect parking lots to be as jammed as the shops themselves, a rerun of the pre-Christmas rush.

Just about all the big malls, including the Eaton Centre and Vaughan Mills, will be open from 8am-8pm.

T.T.C. and GO on holiday service. But because of the expected rush, subways start at 6am.

Wednesday Dec. 27th-Sunday, Dec. 31st

It’s mostly business as usual, as Boxing Day week continues. Most malls will be open from 9:30am-9:30pm until December 30th, closing by 6pm on New Year’s Eve. (The Eaton Centre will shut down an hour earlier at 5pm on December 31st.)

The Red Rocket has extra service on surface routes and on the subway to meet the late night demand and help you get where you’re going – like Citytv’s traditional New Year’s Eve bash that’s free at Nathan Phillips Square. Here’s the schedule.

Most bus and streetcar routes with late-evening service continue until 3am

Monday, January 1, 2007

If you’re not too bleary eyed from the night before, there are some things to do today.

The Eaton Centre and Vaughan Mills, which are designated tourist areas, are the only big malls opening their doors this day. Both will get a late start, with hours of 12 noon-5pm.

Everything else will be out of business for one more day.

Here’s that list:

Malls (with the exceptions noted above)
Grocery stores and supermarkets,
L.C.B.O./Beer stores,
Government offices,
Banks,
Libraries,
No mail delivery,
T.T.C. and GO on holiday schedule. Subways start at 9am.
Tuesday, January 2nd

It’s back to normal and back to work for most of us. Which is a good thing. We need to fill up those coffers to prepare for next year at this time, when the madness starts all over again.
