Idioms and expressions using belts and buttons

1.to tighten one’s belt – to practice thrift, to make do with less.When he lost his job, all his family members had to tighten their belts.

2.   to belt something/someone – to hit something/someone very hard.The baseball player really belted the ball.Even if you’re angry, don’t belt anyone.In Canada, it’s illegal.
