When using this tool, the following factors should be considered:
Map flags represent incidents where police reports are filed. These reports are preliminary in nature and subject to change for a variety of reasons.
In order to protect privacy, no personal or identifying information is included in the map. Addresses are rounded to the hundred block level and should be considered approximate; any attempts to derive a specific address are strictly prohibited. To ensure privacy of the victims involved, the locations of domestic violence offences and offences against children will not be mapped. Highly-populated areas or areas with a high-volume of foot traffic (i.e. shopping areas, entertainment facilities, schools, parks, main roads, etc.) may have more reported incidents. This does not necessarily mean that there is a disproportionate amount of crime in these areas.
The map will sometimes indicate where an incident was reported versus where the incident occurred (for example, a large number of police reports are filed at police stations).
Proactive Policing Flags represent traffic enforcement, foot patrol, crime prevention and community policing activities. They do not represent crimes.
