VicChu 先生已经解释得很好了,我补充几句话。这两组词,重在区别不同词性与句中主语之间的关系,以免混淆,很重要。
1.excite / interest vt. 动词作使动用法,即“可以使 sb/sth 兴奋起来/感到兴趣”。例句:
1). The news that the beautiful girl with long-flowing-hair was going to visit us the next day excited everybody in the office. 长发飘飘美女第二天要来看望我们的消息使办公室里的每一个人都激动起来了。
2). What are you so excited about? 你为何如此激动呀?
3). This special topic interests me greatly. 这个特别的话题使我很感兴趣。
4). Tom interests himself in playing mahjong recently, since his girlfriend is a Chinese student who likes this game. 最近汤姆使他自己对麻将感兴趣,因为他的女朋友是一个喜欢打麻将的中国女学生。
2.excited / interested adj. 实际上是由动词的过去分词转来当形容词使用的,因而带有被动的成分。例句:
1). excited (about / at / over) (to do sth)
They were excited about the showing-up of the pop star. (他们被某件事激动起来了。而不是他们自己令人激动。)
2). interested (in sth ) ( to do sth) ( that )
I am interested in reading novels. (我的兴趣被读书这件事激发起来了。而不是我本人是有趣的。)
3.exciting / interesting adj 往往形容主体本身。
The film was exciting. (这部影片本身令人激动。)
This book is interesting. (这本书本身有趣。)
英语里很多这一类的词,用法都出于此一辙。
